Ivory Mahal Sultanabad Rug. 138 x 155 in.
Early 20th-century Mahal carpet with s a striking allover arabesque pattern centered on a cream ground. The field is filled with scrolling vinery, serrated leaves, and palmettes in rust red, navy, ochre, and forest green. The symmetrical design is anchored by a rosette-like central medallion and mirrored floral sprays extending outward. The border is particularly rich, with a wide rust-red main band decorated with alternating cartouches and rosettes flanked by vine scrolls. Guard borders add a dark, linear contrast with repeating rosettes in deep blue and ivory.
