Rare and Unusual Tribal Bakshayesh Rug with a Chinese Symbol. 96 x 120 in.

Rare and Unusual Tribal Bakshayesh Rug with a Chinese Symbol. 96 x 120 in.

Antique and extremely enigmatic Bakshayesh rug featuring a striking geometric medallion design set within a vertically oriented rectangular field. The central medallion is a large tribal rust red with stepped edges and stylized botanical motifs, flanked by navy and black spandrels with further angular detailing. The surrounding field transitions from ivory to sky blue in each quadrant. What is extremely intriguing about this persian bakshaish is the small drawing of what appears to be a chinese temple which is totally unique and unheard of. The composition is defined by a strong use of stepped outlines and high-relief geometry. The field is sparsely decorated with small symbolic motifs, including angular branches, rosettes, and abstract tribal emblems, enhancing the medallion’s visual impact. The main border features a cream ground filled with a continuous rosette-and-vine pattern in soft red, blue, and brown tones. It is enclosed by multiple narrow guard borders, including a red band with alternating rosettes and stylized leaves, and a blue edge border completing the frame.
