Rare Art Deco Floral Rug by Atelier Martine (Founded by Paul Poiret)
ATELIER MARTINE (Attributed to) - FOUNDED BY PAUL POIRET (1879-1944)
Rectangular colored wool view rug with central decoration of daisies, dandelions and stylized foliage on a black background and yellow border with fine bangs. Worn.
This example was likely made around 1927 by the Atelier Martine founded by couturier Paul Poiret (1879-1944) for the decor of the luxury Chantilly apartment on the liner Île-de-France. A similarly example was featured in the exhibition "Poiret: King of Fashion" at the Metropolitan Museum in New York from May 9 to August 5, 2007.
